Art
Intent We aim to engage, challenge and inspire our children to provide them with the knowledge and skills which will enable them to create their own works of art. We aim to enhance children’s experiences, so they are enriched and empowered, having a cultural understanding both of themselves and the wider community/world. We see art as an opportunity to develop vocabulary, expression, confidence and self-esteem.
Implementation Through our rich and creative art curriculum, children are taught the skills which enable them to produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences. Children become confident with drawing, painting, sculpture and other techniques. Year group topics have been closely linked to specific artists, ensuring that during their time with us, children learn about a range of artists, craft makers and designers. Children learn to evaluate and analyse artistic works using the language of art, craft and design while making links to their own work. Art is celebrated throughout the school with high quality displays and during the Summer Term, the children choose their favourite piece of art work from the year to be displayed in the school's ‘Art Gallery’.
Impact The children will have a wide range of quality experiences through Art and Design, that enables them to draw on and develop their own skills and learning, while developing their cultural capital.
